There’s a whole big world out there just waiting for you to explore it! So many sites to see, peoples to meet, and foods to eat! This article of travel tips will help you to become and enjoy being a world traveler as safely as possible.

1 Avoid Solo Travel

Don’t travel alone, If you can help it, if not then don’t ADMIT you’re traveling alone to strangers.  If you are traveling alone wait for a group to pass by and go with them to make it look like you aren’t alone, don’t wander around looking lost (even if you are), and definitely don’t stay out past dark.

2 Inspect Hotel Rooms Immediately

Check hotel rooms and lodging quarters right away after arriving . As soon as you get to your hotel or BnB look under beds, in closets, and behind shower curtains. Make sure all doors & windows lock and unlock properly. This little device has been making waves on TikTok and even some popular news outlets. It’s called an addalock, a special gadget for added protection. It works by further securing the room by fastening it in between your door and wall, and can only be undone from the inside.

3 Don’t Book Flights That Arrive At Night

Avoid this like the plague if you can! However, if you have to take a flight that will arrive at night time in an unfamiliar area, then have your transportation from the airport arrange in advance. Research stops, how to get metro card, and how late everything runs. Confirm those arrangements prior to leaving the airport or bus/train station. Which bring us to our next travel safety tip.

4 Do Not Accept Rides From Strangers

Don’t accept rides from strangers at the airport (and train or bus stations)! That’s a no Brainer, and it’s actually illegal in most countries due to high crime rates and human trafficking. Before your trip research in advance: airline shuttles, crime rates, and the nearby hotel ratings. It’s important to have your arrangements from the airport to your lodging destination established well in advance (and a back up plan too!) Always, always, always check in with your loved ones or trusted friends before moving from point A to B.

5 Limit Your Alcohol Consumption

Another No Brainer, don’t accept drinks from strangers! And when traveling, especially if you’re solo, you should really considering limiting your alcoholic intake to 1 or none in order to keep a clear head a your whits about you. Plus this way you save money, and your liver will thank you!

6 Keep Electronics Out Of Sight

Don’t walk around with your phone or fancy electronics out. Not only do you not want these items stolen because of their value, and what it may cost to replace them. But they may also (more than likely) have sensitive private information stored on them that thieves and hackers can take advantage of and further threaten your security. Keep them tucked away, and if you need to pull your phone out for directions or a call, go into a nearby coffee shop or store and then discreetly return your device back to its place before you continue on.

7 Don’t Wear Expensive Jewelry

Wearing expensive jewelry (even if it’s just expensive looking) can invite some very unwanted attention, and you run the risk of losing your possessions or having them forcibly taken from you. With that said if you are a person who loves the bling then I suggest buying dupes. Bring a fancy looking but fake wedding ring or earrings that you don’t mind parting with on your trip if need be.

If you love recording your steps and burned calories for the day, try bringing an inexpensive smartwatch as opposed to your fancy Apple/Android Watch or Fitbit. I recommend this one, it’s waterproof, monitors your steps and heart rate. At a fraction of what most name brand smartwatches go for it makes the perfect fitness smart watch for travel and is compatible with both iPhone and android.

8 No Posting While Away

Don’t post your location/trip on social media. Wait until you’ve returned home before posting about your vacation. Strangers do not need to know when you’re away, your exact whereabouts, and how long you’ll be gone.

9 Keep Your Money Hidden

Don’t take out all of your money at once. Keep your money in various places: some in your pocket, socks/shoes, purse, but keep most of it in a money belt under clothes; and only take out cash from there in private (like in a bathroom stall).

10 Keep Copies

Have copies of important documents. I cannot stress this suggestion enough. It is so important to have copies of your passport, ID, vaccination records, and any visas required for your tip. Be sure to have the originals, copies, and pictures on your phone & tablet. For extra safety measures if you are traveling with someone you both should also have a copy of each other’s documents. Lastly email yourself a copy.
