I’m sure by now you know how much I love my trips to Costa Rica! Spending time with my friends out there, enjoying the sites and the food- it’s no wonder I visit often! And one thing I always look forward too are the Costa Rican Frescos Naturales. The first time I visited Costa Rica (and subsequently each time after that) I was offered this beverage.

What is it? Very similar to the Mexican agua frescas, Costa Rican Frescos Naturales or batidos are water based drinks blended with fresh fruits, ice, and some sugar then strained and served chilled. These drinks are great for gatherings on hot summer days!

Today I’m sharing this quick, easy, delicious, and refreshing drink recipe introduced to me by my friend Lorna! So you can make a little bit of Costa Rica at home too!

What you’ll need is:

  • 2 -3 cups of ice
  • 8 oz water
  • 1 pineapple
  • 2/3 cups of sugar
  • Mesh strainer
  • Pitcher or Punch bowl
  • Spoon or Whisk
  • Blender (we do personally own and absolutely love our Vitamix blender, you can use the link here to purchase your very own also!)

Direction:

  1. Remove skin from pineapple and cut into cubes (Don’t toss the pineapple skins! Instead save them to make this delicious detox cider!)
  2. Place half of the amount of ice, sugar, water and pineapple cubes into blender and blend until liquified
  3. Strain into pitcher or punch bowl
  4. Taste test your Costa Rican Frescos Naturales
  5. Repeat step 2
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy
