When I was younger I always loved when my mom would make us beef stroganoff! She uses the McCormick packets and ground beef which never ceases to impress. Today though I when I had a serious craving for it, but no ground beef or packet, I used what I had on hand. And this dish did not disappoint! You’ll need the following items.

Ingredients:

  • Thin sliced beef (1 lbs cardne asada)
  • Baking soda*
  • Olive oil 1 TB
  • 1/2 onion Thin sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • Worcestershire sauce 3 TB
  • Beef bullion powder 2 TB
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Dried oregano
  • Dried parsley
  • Butter 1/2 stick
  • Fresh chopped chives 2 TB
  • Flour 2 TB
  • Heavy cream 3/4 cup
  • Sour cream 1/3 cup
  • Rotini or Egg noodles

Directions:

  • Prepare noodles of choice according to package directions, strain and set aside
  • Sprinkle baking soda evenly on both sides of meat, let sit for 10 minutes then rinse off (this process is a great way to tenderize your meat)
  • Cut meat into even strips and place in skillet with olive oil, sliced onion, minced garlic, seasonings and dried herbs to taste (as much or little as you prefer)
  • Sauté on medium low heat for about 10 minutes then cover with a lid for about 10 more minutes. You don’t want to over cook your meat but you also want your onions to become translucent and tender
  • Remove cooked meat an onions from pan and set aside

*great time to taste test

  • Next add butter and chives to skillet on low heat, once it melts down add 1 TB flour, whisk and repeat with the other TB of flour.
  • Continue whisking butter and flour while slowly pouring in heavy cream. Do so until your sauce mixture is well combined and has a thicker consistency as shown above.
  • Now add in noodles and meat to your sauce, stir and serve!
